🔌 How to Install MediaTek (MTK) and Unisoc (SPD) USB Drivers
Flashing tools can only see your phone if the right low-level USB drivers are installed. MediaTek phones need the VCOM / preloader driver; Unisoc phones need the SPD / SCI driver. The main hurdle on modern Windows is driver-signature enforcement, which silently blocks these unsigned drivers.
⚠ Important. Only install drivers from your firmware package or the official tool. Random "driver installer" downloads are a common source of malware.
What you need
- A Windows PC
- The MTK or Unisoc driver package
- USB cable
Steps
- Identify your chipset. Check the chipset badge on the ROM Palace model page (MediaTek or Unisoc). This decides which driver you need.
- Disable driver-signature enforcement (if needed). On Windows 10/11, hold Shift and click Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Settings → Restart, then press 7 to "Disable driver signature enforcement". This lasts until the next reboot.
- Install the driver. Run the driver installer, or in Device Manager choose "Add legacy hardware" / "Update driver" and point it at the driver folder. For MTK, install the VCOM/preloader driver; for Unisoc, the SPD driver.
- Connect in flash mode and confirm. Plug the powered-off phone in (hold a volume key). In Device Manager you should briefly see "MediaTek USB Port" / "Preloader" or a Unisoc/SPD device — that means the driver works.
Tips & troubleshooting
- A yellow "Code 52" in Device Manager means the signature block is still on — repeat the disable-enforcement step.
- USB 2.0 ports (and a short, good-quality cable) are far more reliable for flashing than USB 3.0.
